VARIOPLEX / UNIPLEX
Programmable Temperature Controllers
Converts Constant Wattage heaters into perfectly regulating heat tracing systems.
Principle of Operation
Heating loads are designed for the worst ambient conditions, making them oversized most of the time. Managing this excess heat has a direct impact on energy consumption, maximum demand, temperature safety, and heater lifespan.
Conventional Control
- A thermostat switches the oversized load on and off within a band above and below its setpoint.
- Thermal cycling leads to expansion and contraction of the heater, eventually causing failure.
- The switching differential results in energy wastage, particularly during flow conditions.
- The heater always operates at maximum power and temperature, delivering more load than required.
Varioplex / Uniplex
- Precisely adjusts heater output based on ambient temperature, matching heat output with heat losses.
- Extends heater life by reducing cycling and operating below its rated output.
- Reduces maximum demand and eliminates energy wastage caused by switching differentials.
- Enhances system safety with lower operating temperatures.
Features
- Automatic curve matching of heat losses vs. heat output for perfect regulation
- Energy savings of up to 50%, depending on hysteresis and maintain temperature
- Improved safety, extended life, and reduced maximum demand
- Mains voltage compensation
- Stabilized designs (lower cable temperatures compared to Ex temperature ratings)
- Continuous monitoring for correct operation
- High power capability (90A SSR/ph; Thyristor stacks up to 260A/ph)
